Freshly Finished

At the risk of becoming the official fan site for Retrouvius, I had to share this freshly finished, five-storey refurbishment in Primrose Hill with you. I've shared work of theirs before, here, here and here (yes, I know...it's a lot).
The reuse of timber is thoroughly imaginative and the tile details are just perfect. Don't even get me started on that kitchen...

Geometric Tiles

Before I worked in the world of spa design (as I mentioned here), I have to admit, I wasn't a fan of mosaic tiles (or any tile for that matter). They reminded me of cold, clinical swimming pools.
I was quickly introduced to the likes of Bisazza and I haven't stopped exploring the world of beautiful tiles since.
I can't get enough of geometric patterns at the moment, and it seems neither can designer, Maria Lladó. Monochrome is always a winner in my book but she's thrown in some teal and gold for a spectacular colour combination here. It's soooooo good.

A Few of My Favourite Things

I never thought it was possible to have the perfect amount of my favourite things in one home. One kitchen even! I'm a big fan of the juxtaposition of textures, especially when that includes rustic versus finished materials, so the kitchen units next to the tile here is making my heart beat a little faster. I'm not even going to mention the floor. It speaks for itself.

This place is so good...AND it's in Spain!

Mid Century Iceland

There is a plethora of on-line magazines out there and they keep getting better with every issue. I find it pretty difficult to keep up so, if you have a favourite please pop it in a comment. I love a virtual click through with a cuppa.

I recently happened upon the second issue of Icelandic magazine, Home & Delicious which features, as you'd expect, interiors and a smattering of delicious recipes with beautiful photography, predominantly by Gunnar Sverrisson, at the back.

This is Gljufrasteinn; the family home of  Nobel prize author, Halldor Laxness. It was designed and built in 1945 and is now open to the public as a museum. He wanted a mixture of country and modern without pretension and filled the, then, new build, with craft pieces and art by his wife and family. It was considered ahead of its time then and its practicality is still relevant. Also, the colours and those tiles rock my world...

I don't know about you but I'm not prepared to let go of summer just yet. I'm holding out for an Indian summer so I'm keeping it fresh with accents of mint.

Zelliges

These tiles rock my world.
Little iridescent squares of irregular, enamelled lovliness handmade in Fez, Morocco. They're available in the prettiest of colours. Tiles like these shouldn't be limited to the kitchen or bathroom; a rich colour makes a statement fire surround or use a pearly shade for a delicate feature in the bedroom...or all of the above!
